Country Mile

Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You (2:25)
Country Mile
single b/w I (Who Have Nothing)

On the label it says "Vocal by Gerry Davis" and "Produced by Walter Georis"... and that is all I know about this 45 by Country Mile.

New in the DylanCover.com collection:
Last Thing On My Mind

It Ain't Me, Babe (3:13) - Terry McCann
Daddy You Been On My Mind (2:17) - Marilyn Collins
One Too Many Mornings (1:49) - John Forsythe
When The Ship Comes In (3:33) - Chris Coombs
With God On Our Side (4:30) - Jane Westlake

Last Thing On My Mind
(Holyground - The Works, Vol.1)
CD: Kissing Spell KSG006; 2000 (UK)
recorded 1966

It's a minor miracle that these recordings have been reissued on CD. There were only 99 copies pressed of the original Last Thing On My Mind LP, recorded on a home-type tape recorder at Bretton Hall College in Yorkshire, England during 1966. Four of the Dylan covers were on the LP. Kissing Spell's Holyground: The Works CD reissue adds With God On Our Side from the 1965 Cross-section EP. Unfortunately, 2 other Dylan songs on that EP are not included here.
Besides the covers, the liner notes and original songs, including the title song, reveal considerable Dylan influences.

A full history and description of the album can be found HERE

New in the DylanCover.com collection: Ho'omau

I Shall Be Released (4:16)
Ho'omau
Paradise
CD: Big D Productions BDP2001; 2000 (Hawaii - US)

Hawaiian group Ho'omau's version of I Shall Be Released is really a cover of Jacob Miller's reggae version, the song is even credited to him on the CD. Some of the other album tracks have more of a traditional Hawaiian sound, but this track is "Jawaiian" reggae.
This CD appears to be out of print, some used sellers are charging big money ($80 and more) for it, but I found mine on eBay for $1.99!

Who's Knockin' On Heaven's Door?

I was sent this version of Knockin' On Heaven's Door, originally downloaded from Napster circa 1999. The file was labeled as by Universal Groove. I haven't been able to find any other info about the track or the artist, if indeed the artist label is correct (Napster was notorious for mis-labeled tracks.)

I'm hoping someone can verify the artists and/or provide any additional info. You can either leave a comment or e-mail me via the e-mail link in the right sidebar.

New in the DylanCover.com collection:
Billy Storm

Tonight I'll Be Staying With You (3:12)
Billy Storm
single
45: Ode ZS7-120; 1969 (US)

The info on this single's label suggests that it is likely from the same sessions that produced the 1969 Dylan's Gospel LP by The Brothers and Sisters. Billy Storm was one of "The Brothers," and the records share producer, arranger and label (Lou Adler, Gene Page, Ode.) Note the printed title omits the "Here."

New in the DylanCover.com collection:
Bonnie Bramlett

Forever Young (4:07)
Bonnie Bramlett
Lady's Choice
CD: Capricorn 314 536 131-2; (US)
[reissue of LP Capricorn CP-0169 LP; June 1976]

Lady's Choice is a collection of classic R&B, Blues and Soul covers from the pens of James Brown, Isaac Hayes, Ashford & Simpson, Sam Cooke, Jimmy Reed, Smokey Robinson and others. It's another testament to the versatility of Dylan's songs that the album closer Forever Young doesn't seem out of place in this company.
