Soundtrack Guide: In & Out

Requiem for Billy The Kid has been added to the Soundtrack Collector's Guide. The 2006 soundtrack from the French film includes renditions of Billy 7 and Knockin' On Heaven's Door by Claire Diterzi.

Deleted from the Guide is Luck You. Published tracklistings of the oft-delayed soundtrack, now scheduled for a late April release, have been revised and no longer includes Johnny Rivers' Positively 4th Street.

New cover: Deadwood Revival

Deadwood Revival, the acoustic duo of Jason Mogi & Kim Trenerry, close their recent album This Old World with "an unhurried cover of Dylan's You Ain't Goin' Nowhere featuring some jammin' claw hammer banjo, and harmonies that has audiences breaking out in cheers at the song's conclusion. One Seattle DJ termed this rendition, "Transcendent". All seven and half minutes!"

A great concept begets a great album: bring together 5 Soul legends (Ann Peebles, Billy Preston, Mavis Staples, Irma Thomas and Allen Toussaint) and create a "new soul record in a classic mode, not a re-creation of classic soul music," including Ann Peebles' excellent rendition of Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You.

Strumming Wilbury's

Strumming Wilbury's, an acoustic tribute to The Traveling Wilburys, is due for release on Jan. 30 by Oarfin Records. Performer credits for the album are unclear, but are described as "some of the music industry’s top players with credits including work with (a long list of well known artists)."
Possibly "Strumming Wilbury's" is being used as a group name.
I do not include all Traveling Wilburys songs in the Dylan Covers DataBase, only those associated with and generally credited to Dylan. This tribute includes all three of the Dylan associated songs from the 1st Traveling Wilburys album: Tweeter & The Monkey Man, Congratulations, and Dirty World. On the TW albums, all the songs were credited to the group, but reports are that the publishing rights for these three are assigned to Dylan, so they will be included.

Zimming Point download albums

I have added two titles to the Download Albums page of Dylan Cover Albums. Both are available from zimmingpoint.com in mp3 format. Zimming Point is a new group name for the Spanish performers who produce the annual Dylan Fiesta shows in Bilbao Spain. Some of these tracks were previously available on another website. Two Dylan Fiesta shows are also listed but are not currently available for download. I have added them to the Dylan Covers DataBase since recordings exist. A few of those tracks are included on the Zimming Shuffle compilation described below.

Riff Party (no artwork provided)
2001 studio recordings by various future members of Zimming Point. 10 Dylan covers + 8 traditionals or other songs. Available as a ZIP file containing all 18 tracks.

Zimming Shuffle
Compilation of live & studio recordings by various members of Zimming Point. Includes tracks from the Dylan Fiesta 63 & 65 shows, 2 tracks from the Riff Party sessions, plus other various live & studio tracks. 18 Dylan covers + 3 traditionals or other songs. Available as a ZIP file containg all 21 tracks, or as individual mp3s.

2. For additional track info, click DISCOS, then choose album. Zimming Shuffle individual mp3s are also on this page.
3. To access the ZIP files of either album, free registration is required. Fill out the registration form (¡Regístrese Ahora!) and submit. Unplugged & Unfinished

My quick review of Unplugged Tribute to Bob Dylan:
I'm always wary of CDs such as this, where you have to read the fine print to discover the performer. In this case, everything is performed and produced by Stewart Michaels. The content is generally OK, certainly not the worst Dylan covers ever, but they're far from the best. Good to hear some of Dylan's new "Modern Times" songs covered. Unforgiveable though is a truncated version of Tangled Up In Blue. The version here fades out after only the third verse. The album is under 40 minutes, you'd think they could have included the full song. Or do another, shorter song... but don't do half a song!

Unplugged Tribute to Bob Dylan

Now added to Dylan Cover Albums is the Unplugged Tribute to Bob Dylan. Only in the fine print is Stewart Michaels credited as the performer.
I was very surprised to see the CD with different artwork than the blue cover shown at various places online (see December 9 post) Maybe there are alternate covers. If anyone has the blue cover, please let me know.
The 38:57 CD covers 5 Dylan classics and 5 songs from Modern Times.
Track list: Tangled Up in Blue, Knocking on Heaven's Door, Lay Lady Lay, Mr. Tambourine Man, Blowin' in the Wind, Someday Baby, The Levee's Gonna Break, Thunder on the Mountain, Rollin' & Tumblin', Workingman's Blues #2

dc motors: update

This is an update of a previous post
My Back Pages (3:54)
dc motors
20 Years Still Rockin'
CD: International Groove Records IGR303; 1999 (US)

This 1999 CD from Washington DC based band dc motors (apparently always written with lowercase letters) is a compilation of their 1982 self-titled album, and later 1988 cassette-only Cadillac Motel album. The latter included this 1986 recording of My Back Pages. The band plays a variety of styles, this track has a light reggae beat. More info at dcmotorsband.com.
Thanks to Mike Dimmick of dc motors for providing the info regarding My Back Pages.

New in the DylanCover.com collection:
Beaver T. Johnston

I'll Be Your Baby Tonight (3:30)
Beaver T. Johnston
single
b/w Save The Last Dance For Me
45: Flat-Tail Records FS2571A/B; 197? (US)

Here's an obscure one...
Probably recorded in the mid-'70s by Beaver T. Johnston, a life-long resident of Heber Springs, Arkansas. Unfortunately the only info I could find on-line about Mr. Johnston is his 2003 obituary, which mentions only the B-side of this record, although the very country version of I'll Be Your Baby Tonight is clearly marked with an "A" suffix on the record number.

New in the DylanCover.com collection: Siberia

Man In The Long Black Coat (3:37)
Siberia
Harm's Way
CD: Little Pony Records UPC#7 88572 89102 8; 2004 (US)

Siberia is a New York based band fronted by singer/lyricist Randy Farmer and guitarist & songwriter John Mitchell. Farmer's partly spoken, eerie female vocal on Man In The Long Black Coat is in stark contrast to Bob's original, but is very effective.
